Our prime purpose in this life is to help others. And if you can’t help them, at least don’t hurt them.
Dalai Lama

In this short video, I discuss setting up the right environment for decision-making that includes all those who the decision will affect. I primarily use these meetings to define the experiments that guide change.

Part 3 on decision-making in organisations

Types of priveledges you might consider:

  • Race
  • Skin Colour
  • Gender
  • Sexuality
  • Age
  • Position in the organisation
  • Country of birth
  • Primary language
  • Education
  • Religion
  • Mental capacity
  • Ability to speak clearly
  • Confidence
  • Technical ability
  • Physical size
  • Wealth
  • Family background
  • Relationship and cliches within the group

There are many more. You can use ones from the list and add your own. What gives you power that others might not have?

The next video will be out shortly.

Important learning:

  • Check your own power and be aware of others — what rank and privilege do you hold and what assumptions does that leave you with?
  • Create a way of working document with everyone involved that becomes a living document that explicitly defines the behaviours of the group.

Some ideas from this video came from Arnie Mindell’s book Sitting in the fire.
